What is hypnosis? Hypnosis is a state of concentrated focus. We enter this state when watching a movie or driving a car. The average person enters a hypnotic state 3-4 times per hour (we call this day dreaming or zoning out). It is a naturally occurring, altered state of consciousness in which the subconscious mind becomes more open and available to work directly with. When working with a Hypnotherapist, an intake session is completed to gather information about what the client wishes to work on. An induction is given to guide the client into a hypnotic state, where suggestions can be given, along with other forms of treatment such as age regression, forgiveness therapy and many more. When someone is in a hypnotic state, they are aware of their surroundings and do not become "unconscious". In fact, many clients report becoming even more aware, with their senses seemingly heightened while in hypnosis. Hypnosis was recognized as a complimentary healing modality by the British Medical Association in 1955, the American Medical Association in 1958, and the American Psychiatric Association in 1961.
